After leaving home for school for 3 years and 4 months, I am finally home. Like a lot of the Malaysian at BYUH said, "Hawaii is my home, Malaysia is my home home."
It really feels weird to be back to this place that I left behind for 3 years plus. Honestly speaking, I didn't miss it everyday because I forgot what it felt like to be here. But now all the pride and joy of being a Malaysian rushed back to my heart. I came back hoping to be surprised. I was surprised...more like a culture shock. Isn't it strange to have a culture shock when you are in your own country, the place you grew up in? But that was how i felt.
It is strange to have to speak Malay again. It is strange to see so many Malay Muslims and Indian people around. It is so strange to smell all the delicious Malay, Indian, and Chinese cuisine. It is so strange to see people driving on the "wrong side" of the road. And it is definitely strange to not see any white people or black people in my city.
AAAAAAAA...everythign is so strange. But strange in a good way. It is so strange that I am totally enjoying everything about the culture. It is so strange that I come back perceiving things almost as a tourist and outsider perceive Malaysia. But there're so many bitter sweet memories here. So many things that remind me of who I am and what I love.
What I enjoy most here are my family, Malaysian food, my good friends, and being able to be a tourist in my own country.
Sunway Pyramid--a deformed sphinx?? a lioninx??
I love this! The ice-cream car. As a child, I used to always run out from my house to buy ice-cream from the ice-cream car when i heard the ice-cream commercial it played whenever it got close to my house. We have our Malaysian ice-cream as well!
