Chinese New Year fun

What I love about Chinese New Year is the excitement it brings every time. Strangely, I associate this peculiar excitement with the word "phobia." I think, like "phobia," this feeling of excitement is unexplainable, only it is not about fear.

I get excited for so many things. Everything about Chinese New Year excites me. The red round lanterns that every Chinese household hang in front of their house, the crazy fireworks (in Leighton's words, "It's like July 4th on steroid"), the reunion dinner with extended family members, the ang pao with unpredictable amount of money, the new clothes for everyday of the Chinese New Year celebration, the lion dance, the traffic jam caused by people going to friends and relatives house to pay visits, the countless kinds of finger foods and cakes people keep feeding us with, and so on.

This Chinese New Year was soooooo special to me because this was the first time I got to celebrate Chinese New Year in 4 years (the ones in Hawaii are not real Chinese New Year celebration for the lack of so many essential CNY things). This was also the first time Leighton, a new addition to my family, got to celebrate CNY. We went back to my hometown to visit my extended family members. I love my grandmother, aunts and uncles, and cousins.  So, I was very very happy that I get to talk to them again.

Here are some of the pictures taken during the week we were in Sibu:
