Story #219: Music that pleases my ears

Recently I've been listening to a lot of music. I have realized that my taste in music has switched from mainstream, like pop and hip hop, to something more soul-reaching. I used to like Britney Spears and all the other pop singers because their songs were really catchy. I have realized now that when you are listening to a song, you don't just listen to the melody alone (unless you can't speak the language), you also take in everything about the song, such as the lyrics and the mood of the song. It's all those elements that make a good song.

Too many mainstream singers (not all of them) have become famous not because they can sing well or because they write good lyrics. They get famous maybe because of the good promotion of their companies or because they have the looks. A lot of them literally give me headache after listening to like, 3 songs, in the whole album. It's as if they have brain-cell-damaging waves of some kind being computerized in their music or something. Ugh...

Of course, there are many mainstream artists who are talented and sing really well too.

I really really love artists who are talented and can really sing. Taylor Swift is such a figure. Then there's Colbie Caillat. I recently fell in love with Mandy Moore's voice. She used to be more mainstream but her music has taken a huge turn. Brooke White, Marit Larsen (former M2M member from Norway), and Michelle Branch (can't wait for her new album) have lovely and unique voices that are so pleasing to the ears. I also love love love Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson. Not only are these artists talented, their songs also bear good lyrics and messages. Definitely worth adding to your playlists.

click on the artist's photos to go to their official website to find out more about them :)

This is Michelle Branch's official site. I don't have her new album's pic.

Enjoy the music!!!!

I completely agree with you about your outlook on music. :) I'll have to check out the artists you mentioned. All I have heard of Taylor Swift I have enjoyed so far and I have Colby's song Bubbly. It is so cute!
